Corporate Entities Bear a Striking Resemblance to the Reavers

In Josh Whedon’s movie Serenity, captain Mal Reynolds and his crew battle the Reavers a species of humans who have lost their humanity to the greed of the Alliance, a multi planet government entity (not unlike a corporation) that rules by hubris and the insatiable need for power. Reavers do horrible things to other humans, unspeakable things, and they do it without remorse because they no longer have any semblance of humanity other than their physical appearance. Reavers elicit terror. Reavers are pure evil.
While reavers are undeniably evil, the Alliance embodies a more insidious and sophisticated form of malevolence. To the average person, the Alliance presents itself as genuinely committed to the well-being of its citizens, advocating for a healthy work-life balance. However, this façade is a manipulative strategy they've honed to a chilling degree, reminiscent of Jim Jones's tactics.
Whether in Corporate or in the Alliance, work life balance is code for “Do what we say and do it quietly or we’ll fuck you over so bad you’ll regret the day you came to work for us.” For us. Not with us. Big difference. Those that challenge entities like the Reavers, the Alliance, corporations, and HR do not fare well and that’s because those in power are well versed in fuckery. Evil is like that.
The trauma that comes as a result is all-encompassing touching every part of a person’s existence. Those who survive live with psychological scars, existing on the fringes where they can heal from the devastation. Sometimes the healing comes quickly and other times it requires more time, attention and the help of a healer. The healer may have a variety of tools from talk therapy to vibrational sound baths. The success depends largely on a belief system. Whether you think you can or think you can’t either way you’re right.
In Serenity, the ship’s pilot (played by Alan Tudyk) is maneuvering through a sky full of Reaver ships weaving in and around all while being fired upon. Captain Reynolds (played by Nathan Fillion), unsure they’ll make it through safely, shouts “NO” to which the pilot’s responds “YES”. It’s a call and response with no and yes shouted several times back and forth with fervor and determination on both side and in the end the pilot succeeds. He arrives with minimal harm to the ship and crew. He believed he could travel safely through the maze of enemy ships because he believed in his skills.
When I was recovering from my corporate Reaver experience I believed I could make things right in my head, heart, body, and soul. And I succeeded. I used the power of my own belief as well as vibrational sound of tuning forks.
My daily practice was then, and continues to be, is much like a meditation with sound. I use different forks for different situations. Weighted 136.1Hz and 128Hz combined for my pain and 532Hz and 428Hz for my emotional wellbeing are what I use on a regular basis. I also use the Solfeggio frequencies for various things both for myself as well as for my clients. I use these same forks with my clients creating a playlist of vibrations to address their specific needs whether it’s pain from arthritis, stress from the life of caregiving or like me trauma from discrimination and abuse.
Sound therapy is as old as human existence and spans many different cultures. It’s as natural as the wind and the breath we take. For me it helped with the trauma of workplace discrimination and abuse as well as the severe arthritis which was exacerbated by the abuse. My pain level went from a 12 (on the pain scale of 1-10) down to a 2.
I’m a silver lining kind of person. While the corporate discrimination and abuse is unacceptable, unconscionable, and always will be, I found a way to heal. I found healing not just for myself but for my clients as well.
It will be okay because together we’ll make it okay.
